Bryonie’s summer to remember!
For Bryonie, Gateways’ camps are more than just a getaway. They are a place to grow, make friends, and try new things. She has been with Gateways for about two years, joining in recreational activities and individual support. But her favourite part? The camps, of course!
Her favourite camp so far has been the Summer Escape at Tootgarook. From the moment she stepped onto the ferry to cross Port Phillip Bay, she knew she was in for an adventure. She loved staying at the fully accessible Tootgarook House, relaxing near the beautiful coastline, and enjoying the exciting Rye Carnival, which was a fun night to remember. But what made it even more special was the friendships she made along the way.
Bryonie has met lots of new friends at camp, and the best part is she still keeps in touch with them online! Camp friendships are different, they grow through shared experiences, late-night chats, and the excitement of trying new things together. She also feels well-supported by staff like Connor, who she describes as patient and understanding. With support like this, she always feels comfortable and included.
Bryonie enjoys the opportunity to try new things. Whether it’s exploring a new place, going on a ferry ride, or dancing the night away, she enjoys every moment. “I like everything!” she says with a big smile. She loves adventure and is always excited for what’s next. Looking ahead, she hopes to go on more camps, maybe even an interstate trip! She would also love another summer camp in the Otways!
When asked why others should try Gateways’ camps, her answer is simple: “Everyone would enjoy it and have lots of fun!” Whether you want to make new friends, discover new places, or step outside your comfort zone, camp is an experience like no other. For Bryonie, camp isn’t just about the activities, it’s about the people, the memories, and the excitement of what’s next.
