Alister’s birthday: celebrating what makes him unique

At Gateways Support Services, we love supporting and celebrating what makes each person unique. Adam, who attends our Social Connect program, just celebrated his 29th birthday in a creative and exciting way.

Every year, Adam picks a theme for his birthday. Last year, it was Cartoon Network. This year, he chose ABC. Leading up to his birthday, Adam asked to be called Alister, after one of his favourite Play School presenters.

Gateways staff supported Alister in planning his birthday over the past year. He created stuffed teddies of the ABC characters and chose the songs to be played and performed at the party. On the big day, everyone in Social Connect along with many of the wider Gateways team joined in, dressing as characters and enjoying dancing, singing, and plenty of fun.

At Gateways, we make sure everyone feels supported and included. Social Connect helps our clients do the things they love, make friends, and share their ideas.

Alister’s birthday wasn’t just a party, it was a way to celebrate who he is and what makes him happy. Days like this show how important it is to support each person’s passions and create a sense of belonging.
