From connection to collaboration
For nearly 10 years, Ebony has been a key part of Gateways Support Services, where she now leads our Recreation Team. At the 2023 Disability Connection Expo introduced her to Kerry, who was attending the expo in search of new opportunities. The Expo, known for helping people with disabilities and their families find resources, became the turning point for both of them.
Kerry had long heard great things about Gateways—from employees, clients, and the wider disability sector. Although she was unsuccessful in a previous application for a Support Coordinator role at Gateways, she remained determined. After meeting Ebony, who was warm and welcoming, Kerry knew Gateways was where she wanted to be. Ebony shared her contact information, and they discussed potential ways to collaborate in the future with Kerry’s current employer.
Kerry’s persistence paid off when she applied for the Recreation Program Leader position, eventually joining the Gateways team in September.
“I couldn’t explain the happiness I felt when I was called to tell me I was successful… When you find a company that has values you really align with, never give up,” she says. Kerry is now thriving at Gateways, dedicated to our mission of supporting the disability sector with compassion, care, and inclusion.
Looking ahead to 2024, Gateways will again be at the Disability Connection Expo, ready to meet others passionate about disability services. If you’re looking to connect, learn, or find your next opportunity, visit our booth and see how these connections can transform lives.
