Golf Day Supports Autism Services
Gateways Support Services 15th Annual Charity Golf Day funds raised will go towards the cost of providing autism assessments for young children (2-5 years) so that these children can begin to receive the therapy supports they need to thrive.
The 2019 Gateways Golf day raised over $17,000 to pay for vitally needed autism assessments to give young children the best start in life! Gateways offers an enormous thank you to our small but amazing auxiliary for organising such a great event and to the many businesses and individuals who helped make the day such a success.
Paediatricians refer children with complex profiles to the Gateways multidisciplinary autism assessment team, comprising experienced psychologists and speech pathologists. They spend between 14-20 hours assessing the child, and visiting them in them community as well as meeting with their parents, writing up their detailed report and discussing this with the paediatrician, before meeting with the family to provide feedback and recommendations.
Waiting list time for an autism assessment is currently 10 months. Gateways receives government funding for 19 autism assessments but thanks to generous community donations, provides an additional 75 autism assessments per year.
