NDIS – A Parent’s Journey
A Free Parent Talk & Lunch for parents who have a child with an intellectual disability or developmental delay is being held at our new office, at 3 Princes Hwy Werribee on Friday August 24th, 12.30-1.30pm.
Gateways is hosting this event as part of celebrations to officially launch its new Werribee service.
Guest speaker, Carolyn McDiarmid has a young son with a disability and is from Geelong (a pilot region for the NDIS) with 5 years NDIS experience under her belt. She will share some great tips on how to navigate the NDIS, drawing from her experience as a parent and from her role as a Strengthening Parent Support Coordinator working with families.
In preparation for the NDIS’ arrival in Wyndham in October, this informal talk is a great opportunity for parents to come together and ask questions. Parents can choose to stay on for a light lunch and the Werribee Service’s Official Opening (1.30-2.00pm) followed by a Mini Expo (2.00-3.00pm), where members of the community are invited to take a self guided tour of the Werribee Office and explore Gateways’ range of services including children’s therapy, recreation programs for children & adults and support coordination services, which assist participants and families to make the most of their NDIS plans.
Staff from each of these service areas will be on hand to answer any questions. Gateways Therapists will be available to explain more about the role of Occupational Therapists and Speech Therapists and the Werribee Lego Mates Therapy Program, which assists children with a diagnosed disability or developmental delay with the development of communication and social skills.
Members of the community are invited to attend all or part of the event but places at the Parent Talk are limited. To assist us with planning, please indicate which part of the day you would like to attend and RSVP to westernmelbourne@gateways.com.au or ph: 03 9396 1111
