Meet our newest volunteer!
This week is National Volunteer Week, an annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation’s volunteers.
Over the weekend we shared the story of Lyn, one of our longest serving Interchange host program volunteers, so today we thought we’d introduce Ben, one of our newest volunteers who has just joined the Gateways team.
Ben is in his twenties and works in a fly in fly out job. When he is home on his shifts off, he’s decided he wants to help make a difference in the lives of children and adults with a disability by becoming one of our recreation volunteers.
Ben joins almost 40 other Gateways recreation volunteers, who dedicate some time to come along and help encourage children and adults to participate in a range of fun and social activities. Some of the different activities that Ben might help support include trips out and about in the community, music, craft days and just hanging out and having fun.
Last week during his latest trip home, Ben completed the Gateways orientation and training session so he’s looking forward to getting started in the coming weeks.
Welcome Ben, we thank you for your enthusiasm and looking forward to having you as a part of our team. We’re sure you’ll enjoy the new people you’ll meet and hopefully have a lot of fun along the way!
